This page tells you about Grooming and Bathing your pig.


GroomingEdit

You will need to groom your guinea pig every day. You will need:


  • Brush
  • Comb
  • Nail clippers
  • Weighing tray
  • Your eyes

Grooming checklist:

  1. Look over your guinea pig carefully, look on it's belly, too.
  2. Feel it's skin for bumps and lumps.
  3. Brush it.
  4. Comb it.
  5. Check it's nails.
  6. Weigh it.

You will need these things to trim their nails:

  • A carrot or dandelion.
  • You.
  • Blanket.
  • Nail clippers.

Nail trimming checklist:

  1. Put the towel on your lap.
  2. Give your pig the carrot.
  3. Get one of the pig's paws.
  4. Cut all the way to the quick (pink part).
  5. Do every paw.
  6. Praise your pig.
  7. Put the pig in it's cage.
  8. Tidy up!

Washing supplies:

  • Jug of warm water.
  • Towel.
  • Box.
  • Blanket or hay.
  • Hot water bottle.
  • Flat-bottomed bowl.
  • Mild baby or kitten shampoo.

Washing checklist:

  1. Fill the bowl with a tiny bit of warm water.
  2. Lower the guinea pig in.
  3. Splash water on it, keep the face dry.
  4. Pour a capful of soap on the guinea pig.
  5. Rub it into the coat. Don't forget the belly!
  6. Give it a shower to rinse it.
  7. Rub the coat.
  8. Keep rubbing and rinsing until there are no more bubbles.
  9. Set the guinea pig down and dry it.
  10. Brush it and comb it.
  11. Wrap the hot water bottle in a towel.
  12. Put it in the bottom of the box.
  13. Fold a thick blanket up and put it in the box on top of the water bottle.
  14. Put your pig in the box on top of the blanket.
  15. Let it dry.
